Karinkaali

In the left hand, a staff made of plantain stem, palm leaf, and coir is seen. Devotees with faith offer vows for various fulfillments. All the faults in the house are transferred to the staff by sacrificing a chicken and then taken to the temple, according to legend. In the southern Malabar region, Karinkali is usually seen in festivals and fairs at kaavus and temples. Observing strict vows is considered necessary for performing Karinkali. Karinkalis arrive at the festival ground to the rhythm of the chenda drum and perform accordingly. However, they do not go near main temples. Instead, rituals are concluded in a temporary palm leaf pavilion built away from the temple.
